Jack the Ripper! The very mention of the name seems to conjure up visions of fog-shrouded streets, the soft footfalls of an unknown and lethal assassin, the swift and lethal flashing of a gleaming blade as another victim falls to the ground, her life blood pouring out onto the foul, filth laden cobbles of Victorian London. And yet, the Victorian era was so much more than the crimes of the Ripper. Told within the pages of Whitechapel 13, are tales of Jack, yes, but also tales of romance, and of Victorian life as it was for those untouched by the crimes that beset the streets of Whitechapel in that ‘autumn of terror’ in 1888. Whitechapel 13 will help raise funds for The Whitechapel Society 1888, the premier organization responsible for research into life in Victorian and Edwardian society in London’s East End as well as the crimes of Jack the Ripper. With contributions from members of the society and from an international line up of authors, the streets of Victorian London await your pleasure!

-Brian L. Porter Editor of Whitechapel 13
